After months of hard work and planning, the NCTA lobby, already packed with high-tech tools and toys designed to show off the world of cable technology, finally has its flagship feature: a 165-inch, fully interactive HD digital wall! NCTA’s Julianne Twining was kind enough to give us her best Vanna White impression and showed off some of the wall’s best features.
Technologically, it’s one-of-a-kind. The screen is composed of nine 1080p high-definition screens which, when combined, boast an impressive 5740×3240 lines of resolution. The screens have the thinnest bezels of any screen in the world today – only about 5.5 combined millimeters of non-display surface on each. The collection of nine truly look like a single monolithic screen.
Made by Coolux Media Systems, the system uses a unique Pandoras Box AirScan allowing users to interact with the screen by gesturing. But if users feel more comfortable touching the screen, they can interact that way, too.
Right now the wall features some of the same content available on NCTA.com and cabletechtalk.com, slightly modified and made more interactive. There are maps showing off cable’s economic impact state-by-state, statistics on broadband penetration, and short videos. We will be adding new content regularly, so look out for fun games and interactive infographics.
The screen is remarkably flexible and incredibly powerful. If content can be imagined, it can probably be displayed. We’re letting our imaginations soar and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new features. And if you have any ideas for the digital wall, post them in the comments!
